During the Upper Columbia Conference executive committee meeting, held Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, Eric Sayler was appointed ministerial director. Sayler became a certified pastoral field mentor through Center for Community Change at Andrews University. “What an honor to join this talented team at the conference office and beyond,” said Sayler. “I’m looking forward to working alongside and supporting our UCC pastors and church leaders.”

The Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has launched a new partnership with The Centre for Community Change (TCCC), a ministry established in 2023 by the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. The goal is to integrate Ellen G. White’s “Christ’s method alone” principle, as outlined in the well-known book The Ministry of Healing, into practical, community-based ministry.

Andrews University has received a grant of $6,326,735 from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Ministry in Rural Areas and Small Towns Initiative. The aim of the initiative is to provide resources to help churches in rural areas and small towns enhance the vitality of their ministries and strengthen the leadership of the pastors and lay leaders who guide them.

About seven years ago, I had a realization that changed everything for me.

In 2017, I was on a mission trip in Hawaii and had several meaningful conversations with a friend. We talked about the Christian faith and how Jesus is the center of our lives. Like the crystal-clear waters of a Hawaiian beach, one thing became undeniably clear: the center of my spiritual universe does not revolve around me.
